  • Description

This 1976 Gattinara from Agostino Brugo shows the dignified evolution of mature Nebbiolo from Alto Piemonte. The nose is complex and finely etched, opening with dried rose petal, sour cherry, and pomegranate, followed by classic tertiary notes of tar, leather, iron, and autumn leaves. Subtle hints of truffle, dried herbs, and balsamic add further depth.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with a graceful, linear structure. The fruit has shifted fully toward dried red berries and blood orange, supported by still-present acidity that gives lift and definition despite the wine’s age.

The mid-palate emphasizes savory and mineral elements—rusted iron, forest floor, tobacco, and mushroom—reflecting the volcanic soils of Gattinara. Tannins are resolved but not absent, offering a fine, dusty grip that carries the wine forward.

The finish is long and quietly persistent, leaving impressions of dried flowers, earth, and mineral salinity. A refined, contemplative expression of aged Nebbiolo, prized for its transparency, structure, and sense of place rather than sheer power.
