    Clos Lanson 2006

The 2006 Clos Lanson is a rare and distinctive Champagne, produced from a single, walled vineyard adjacent to the Lanson cellars in Reims. Made exclusively from Chardonnay, it reflects both the warm generosity of the vintage and the chalk-driven precision of this historic site, offering a style that is simultaneously expressive and refined.

On the nose, the wine opens with ripe citrus, baked lemon and white peach, followed by notes of acacia honey, toasted brioche and almond. With air, more complex nuances emerge: hazelnut, light vanilla, gentle spice and a pronounced chalky minerality that gives clarity and definition.

The palate is broad yet beautifully controlled, combining richness with tension. Layers of citrus oil, ripe orchard fruit and subtle stone fruit are supported by creamy patisserie notes and a finely textured mousse. The chalky backbone brings balance and lift, preventing the wine from feeling heavy despite its concentration.

Structurally, Clos Lanson 2006 shows impressive harmony. The acidity is ripe and integrated, the texture silky, and the overall profile confident and complete. It lacks overt sharpness but compensates with depth, persistence and a sense of quiet power that unfolds gradually in the glass.

The finish is long, saline and elegant, lingering with citrus zest, toasted nuts and mineral notes. Drinking beautifully now, especially with a little air, yet with the substance to continue ageing gracefully, this is a serious, characterful Champagne and a fascinating expression of both vineyard and vintage.
