Description
The 2005 Cristal, presented here in magnum, is a Champagne of generosity and depth, shaped by a warm, ripe growing season yet retaining the precision and poise that define this iconic cuvée. Time in magnum has been particularly kind, allowing the wine to evolve slowly and harmoniously, enhancing freshness and integration.
On the nose, the wine opens with ripe citrus and stone-fruit aromas — lemon zest, white peach and mirabelle plum — before developing layers of toasted brioche, roasted hazelnut and almond cream. With air, subtler notes of honeycomb, vanilla pod and a distinctive chalky minerality come through, adding complexity and refinement.
The palate is broad yet finely tuned, combining crystalline purity with impressive concentration. Ripe orchard fruit and citrus oil are balanced by patisserie notes, nougat and gentle spice, all carried by a silky texture. The magnum format lends extra energy and tension, keeping the wine vibrant despite its richness.
Structurally, this is a confident and complete Cristal, with a firm acid spine and beautifully integrated dosage. The balance between ripeness and freshness is exemplary, showcasing the character of the vintage while remaining unmistakably Cristal in style.
