Description

1974 Carretta “Bric Paradiso” Nebbiolo

Overview:
A beautifully mature example of traditional Piedmontese Nebbiolo, the 1974 Carretta “Bric Paradiso” reflects the restrained, long-lived style of the era, where structure, acidity and patient ageing were central to the wine’s development. Now fully evolved, it displays the savoury tertiary complexity, perfume and earthy elegance that define mature Nebbiolo from the Langhe hills.

Appearance:
Pale garnet with pronounced brick-orange evolution at the rim, showing graceful maturity and classic development from extended bottle ageing.

Nose:
Highly aromatic and tertiary in profile, opening with dried rose petals, sour cherry and redcurrant layered over leather, tobacco leaf and forest floor. With aeration, additional nuances of truffle, cedarwood, dried herbs and warm earthy spice emerge, giving the wine impressive complexity and old-world character.

Palate:
Elegant, savoury and fully resolved, with softened tannins integrated into a silky, harmonious texture. Flavours of dried cherry, stewed red berries and earthy savoury tones are supported by notes of leather, liquorice, cedar and subtle balsamic nuance. Nebbiolo’s natural acidity continues to provide freshness and lift, carrying the wine gracefully through its mature tertiary profile.

Finish:
Long, refined and gently austere, lingering through dried flowers, tobacco, earthy spice and delicate truffle notes.

Decanting:
Stand upright for 2–3 days to allow sediment to settle. Decant carefully through a fine strainer and aerate 1–2 hours before serving at 16–18°C. Fragile corks are common; strain any fragments during decanting.

About the Producer:
Carretta is a historic Piedmontese estate associated with the traditional winemaking culture of the Langhe region. Wines such as “Bric Paradiso” reflect the classical Nebbiolo style of the mid-20th century, emphasising structure, longevity and the gradual development of savoury tertiary complexity through extended bottle ageing.
