Description
Pierre Ponnelle was a respected 19th/20th-century négociant house in Beaune, producing a wide range of Côte d’Or wines. Their Pommard bottlings were sourced from the commune’s robust vineyards, noted for firm structure and long ageing potential. The 1962 vintage in Burgundy was excellent, producing wines with concentration, balance, and longevity — among the best of the decade.
Colour: Originally deep ruby, now brick-garnet with age.
Nose: Mature tertiary bouquet – dried cherry, forest floor, leather, sous-bois, tobacco, and faint game. Some bottles may show truffle or mushroom notes typical of aged Pinot Noir.
Palate: Medium-bodied with softened tannins; acidity still present but integrated. Flavours of dried red fruit, earthy spice, and a savoury finish. Structure has mellowed, leaving elegance more than power.
