2018 Carvalhas Vinhas Velhas (Red)
A complex, terroir-driven red crafted from century-old vines at the iconic Quinta das Carvalhas. Deep ruby in colour, it shows layers of blackberry, black cherry, and red cranberry, harmoniously combined with notes of creamy vanilla and earthy spice. Full-bodied and beautifully balanced, with lively acidity and fine, velvety tannins leading to a long, elegant finish. A true expression of its origin — refined now, with outstanding potential to age for decades.
2021 Carvalhas Branco (White)
A fresh and elegant blend of the Douro’s indigenous varieties — Viosinho, Rabigato and Côdega de Larinho.
Bright and expressive, with aromas of lemon, lime, and apricot. The palate is lively and mineral, offering crisp acidity balanced by subtle hints of vanilla and toast. Finishes long and refreshing. Fans of Chablis will love this beautifully mineral white from the Douro Valley.

***95 Points- Wine Advocate*** vinhas velhas 2018
The 2018 Vinhas Velhas da Quinta das Carvalhas is a field blend from the winery's old vines (around 100 years) aged for 18 months in 50% new French oak. It comes in at 14.46% alcohol. Suave but ripe and deep, this balanced Vinhas Velhas is a Big Boy that nonetheless easily holds itself together and winds up seeming rather elegant. The first thing you'll notice here is not the big fruit, but the power. There is a real tannic backbone, meaning this is not ready. The tannins are not too hard, to be sure, but you'll want to give this a year or two (maybe more) in the cellar for better results. The mid-palate will easily balance the power in the long run. This tastes great and shows great promise for the future. This is one you'll have to be prepared to cellar a bit. If you're not patient, look away. It will probably show more harmony in the mid-2020s, but it still may not be at peak then. I think this is pretty impressive today. Some cellaring may actually improve it notably. Vibrant and fresh, this shows off some wood and a touch of spice but also considerable purity as it airs and warms. It seems relatively concentrated and vigorous, but always perfectly balanced. This should easily improve over the next couple of years. It has a pretty good shot at aging well for the rest of the decade, maybe more. If it develops well, it might yet be entitled to an uptick in score. This graceful but still substantial white is pretty fine this year. Given the attractive price point, it is hard not to give this a try.
