Description

Produced from selected parcels of century-old vines at Quinta das Carvalhas, Vinhas Velhas represents the pinnacle of the estate's red wine production. Sourced from a remarkable field blend of traditional Douro grape varieties grown on the estate's steep north-facing slopes, the wine captures both the unique character of Quinta das Carvalhas and the rich viticultural heritage of the Douro Valley. The 2019 vintage is a powerful yet refined expression of these historic vineyards, combining concentration, freshness and exceptional ageing potential.

Appearance:
Deep ruby-purple in colour with impressive intensity and youthful vibrancy.

Nose:
Complex and highly expressive, revealing aromas of blackberry, black cherry and wild blueberry layered with notes of violets, dark chocolate and sweet spice. Hints of cedar, graphite and subtle oak influence add further depth, while the old-vine fruit provides remarkable aromatic concentration and precision.

Palate:
Full-bodied and structured, with remarkable balance between ripe fruit, vibrant acidity and finely textured tannins. Layers of black fruits, damson plum and blackcurrant unfold across the palate, supported by notes of cocoa, spice and mineral complexity. Despite its concentration and power, the wine retains freshness and elegance, reflecting the altitude and exposure of the vineyard. Young and tightly wound, it promises significant development with further bottle age.

Finish:
Long, persistent and refined, with lingering notes of dark fruit, spice, mineral freshness and fine tannic grip.
How to store your Wine
This wine prefers to remain undisturbed, lying on its side in a dark and at least slightly humid place at a stable temperature of between 10°C and 14°C.
