Description

The Quinta da Devesa 2020 Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) Port is a powerful, character-driven wine that captures the richness of the 2020 Douro harvest. Sourced from the estate’s vineyards in the Baixo Corgo sub-region—where cooler conditions often yield more aromatic styles—this LBV benefits from both careful vineyard management and traditional foot treading in granite lagares. The result is a wine that bridges the gap between youthful vibrancy and classic structure.

In the glass, it reveals a deep, opaque purple colour with ruby highlights, suggesting both concentration and youth. The nose is generous and inviting, offering layers of blackberry, black cherry, and ripe damson plum, underscored by subtle notes of violets, dark chocolate, and baking spices. There's a lifted freshness to the aromatics, despite the wine’s intensity, that speaks to both terroir and thoughtful winemaking.

The palate is full-bodied and richly textured, with a core of juicy black fruit and well-integrated tannins that give it impressive grip and length. There’s a fine balance between the natural sweetness and a cleansing acidity, making it both indulgent and refreshing. Importantly, this LBV is bottled unfiltered—a deliberate choice to retain maximum flavour and ageing potential. As a result, it may develop a light sediment over time and should be decanted before serving for best results.

While approachable in its youth, the wine’s depth and structure suggest it will evolve gracefully over the next 5 to 8 years in bottle. It is an excellent match for strong cheeses, rich chocolate desserts, or savoury dishes such as roast duck with fruit-based sauces. A fine example of a modern LBV that punches above its weight in both complexity and age-worthiness.
