Quinta do Noval has announced the release of its legendary Nacional 2024 Vintage Port, produced from the tiny parcel of ungrafted pre-phylloxera vines at the heart of the Quinta. Widely regarded as one of the most extraordinary wines in the world, Nacional represents the purest and most profound expression of Quinta do Noval’s exceptional terroir. Only 167 cases were produced in 2024.

Almost opaque purple-black in colour, the nose is immensely deep, refined, and complex, revealing layers of ripe wild berries, black cherry, plum, and cassis intertwined with notes of dark chocolate, liquorice, exotic spice, and subtle floral nuances. Beneath the concentrated fruit lies a remarkable mineral precision and aromatic intensity that are unmistakably characteristic of Nacional.

On the palate, the wine is monumental yet perfectly composed, combining immense concentration with extraordinary purity and precision. Broad, powerful tannins frame dense layers of dark fruit, while vibrant acidity and mineral freshness bring shape, definition, and remarkable balance to the wine’s immense structure. Despite its power, the 2024 Nacional displays extraordinary harmony and elegance, leading to a long, precise, and persistent finish of exceptional depth and complexity.

The 2024 growing season provided near-perfect conditions, with generous winter rainfall, moderate temperatures, and cool nights during the final stages of ripening allowing the ungrafted vines to achieve outstanding phenolic maturity while preserving freshness and aromatic purity. Harvested on September 30th and vinified using traditional foot treading in granite lagares, the resulting wine displays both the immense authority and finesse that define great vintages of Nacional.
