Description
Quinta do Vesuvio, 1992
Vintage Port
The 1992 vintage in the Douro followed the acclaimed 1991 declaration, and while not universally declared, several leading houses produced impressive Vintage Ports of depth and character. Quinta do Vesuvio — one of the Douro’s most historic and visually striking estates — crafted a wine that reflects the power and individuality for which the quinta is renowned.
Located in the remote Douro Superior, Vesuvio is celebrated for its steep terraced vineyards and traditionally lagares-fermented Ports. By the early 1990s, under the stewardship of the Symington family, the estate was firmly established as a producer of intensely structured, age-worthy Vintage Ports.
Tasting Notes:
Now deep ruby moving towards garnet at the rim, the nose is rich and expressive. Aromas of black cherry, plum and blackberry are layered with notes of dark chocolate, spice and subtle floral lift. With time in the glass, hints of leather, dried fig and cedar emerge. On the palate it is full-bodied and concentrated, with firm yet rounded tannins supporting flavours of dark berries, cocoa and warming spice. The finish is long, powerful and well-balanced, retaining freshness despite its maturity.
Serving & Food Pairing:
Decant carefully to remove natural sediment and allow the wine time to breathe before serving. Best enjoyed at cellar temperature. A classic partner to blue cheeses, dark chocolate desserts or simply savoured on its own.
Summary:
A characterful and structured Vintage Port from one of the Douro’s most prestigious single estates, Quinta do Vesuvio 1992 offers depth, power and the distinctive personality that defines this iconic quinta.
