Quinta do Vesúvio 2024 Vintage Port
A Powerful and Refined Expression from the Queen of the Douro

Quinta do Vesúvio returns with its 2024 Vintage Port, a wine that magnificently captures the power, complexity, and unmistakable character of one of the Douro’s most iconic estates. Produced from a selection of exceptional vineyard parcels across the dramatic slopes of the Douro Superior, the 2024 vintage combines Vesúvio’s renowned structure and intensity with remarkable freshness, balance, and elegance.

Deep purple-black in colour, the nose is intensely aromatic and expressive, revealing layers of black cherry, cassis, blackberry, and wild berry fruit intertwined with notes of rosemary, pine resin, forest floor, and dark spice. Subtle hints of black olive, schist, and floral herbs add further complexity, while the wine’s lifted aromatic profile reflects the diversity of Vesúvio’s exceptional terroirs.

On the palate, the wine is bold, expansive, and beautifully structured, with concentrated dark fruit flavours supported by ripe grainy tannins and vibrant acidity. The texture is rich and seductive, yet perfectly balanced by freshness and mineral precision, leading to a long, persistent, and deeply expressive finish. Combining immense power with remarkable refinement, the 2024 Vesúvio displays both immediate appeal and outstanding long-term ageing potential.

The 2024 growing season provided steady and even ripening conditions, allowing the estate’s varied vineyard parcels to express themselves fully. Touriga Franca excelled in particular, contributing nearly half of the final blend and bringing aromatic lift, freshness, and structure to the wine. Traditional foot treading in granite lagares, still faithfully preserved at Vesúvio, further enhanced the wine’s texture, complexity, and authenticity.

Quinta do Vesúvio is one of the Douro Valley’s most historic and spectacular estates, renowned for producing powerful and age-worthy Vintage Ports of exceptional individuality. Located in the remote Douro Superior, the estate’s dramatic range of vineyard aspects and altitudes creates wines of remarkable complexity and freshness despite the region’s intense heat. Vesúvio remains one of the few estates to continue traditional large-scale foot treading in granite lagares, preserving centuries-old winemaking traditions that contribute to the distinctive depth, structure, and longevity of its wines.

Reviews

Just 1,510 cases representing 4% of the total production of this magnificent estate on the south side of the River Douro in the Douro Superior, 47% Touriga Franca (planted in the 1970s), 30% Touriga Nacional, 13% Alicante Bouschet, 10% Sousão: very deep inky crimson hue; restrained but well defined on the nose, lovely pure berry fruit with a nice green edge; this freshness and purity of fruit is evident on the palate too with spicy tannins rising in the mouth, lovely definition and a finish that has perfect poise despite being the sweetest of all the wines at 4.2 baumé. 18.5 - Richard Mayson
