Description
Bodegas Riojanas Monte Real Reserva 1967 – Rioja
The 1967 Monte Real Reserva from Bodegas Riojanas is a beautifully mature and traditionally styled Rioja, offering elegance, subtle complexity and gentle savoury depth after decades of ageing. The colour has softened to a pale garnet with pronounced amber and brick tones at the rim, reflecting its long and graceful evolution.
The nose is delicate yet expressive, with aromas of dried cherry, redcurrant and plum skin layered with leather, tobacco, old wood, vanilla and gentle coconut from extended American oak ageing. Notes of forest floor, dried herbs, orange peel and soft spice add further nuance and classic Rioja character.
On the palate, the wine is light to medium-bodied, silky and harmonious. The tannins are fully resolved, giving a smooth, refined texture, while flavours of dried red fruits, tea leaf, savoury spice and gentle oak sweetness unfold with clarity. The acidity, if well preserved, provides lift and balance, keeping the wine poised and elegant despite its age.
The finish is calm, refined and quietly persistent, leaving lingering impressions of dried fruit, leather, vanilla and gentle spice. This is a Rioja to appreciate slowly, for its finesse and history rather than power.
This mature Monte Real Reserva pairs beautifully with simple roast meats, grilled chicken, mushroom dishes, mild stews and aged Manchego or other semi-hard cheeses.
A graceful, fully mature Rioja offering subtle complexity, balance and timeless charm. The 1967 Bodegas Riojanas Monte Real Reserva is a fine example of traditional Rioja ageing with dignity, harmony and quiet beauty.
