The 1968 Rioja Palacio Glorioso Cosecha Gran Reserva is a beautifully mature example of traditional Rioja, offering elegance, subtle complexity and gentle savoury depth after more than five decades of ageing. The colour is now a pale garnet with pronounced brick-orange tones at the rim, reflecting its long and graceful evolution.
The nose is delicate, refined and classically styled. Aromas of dried cherry, redcurrant and plum skin are layered with leather, tobacco, old wood, vanilla and soft coconut from extended American oak ageing. Notes of forest floor, dried herbs, orange peel and gentle spice add further nuance and authenticity.
On the palate, the wine is light to medium-bodied, silky and harmonious. The tannins are fully resolved, creating a smooth, refined texture, while flavours of dried red fruits, tea leaf, savoury spice and gentle oak sweetness unfold with clarity. The acidity remains fresh, giving the wine lift and balance despite its age.
The finish is elegant, calm and quietly persistent, leaving lingering impressions of dried fruit, leather, vanilla and soft spice. This is a wine for slow, thoughtful enjoyment rather than power.
