Description
1965 is and Ideal 60th Birthday or Anniversary Gift. A genuine 1965 vintage makes this bottle an unforgettable gift for a 60th birthday or anniversary, combining rich flavour, rarity, and history in a single glass.
Tasting Note:
A remarkable expression of time and terroir, this 1965 Banyuls offers a deep mahogany hue with amber glints. The nose is intensely aromatic, showing evolved notes of fig compote, walnut, burnt orange peel, and toffee. On the palate, it is velvety and complex, unfolding layers of dried plum, cocoa nibs, leather, and rancio—the hallmark of prolonged oxidative ageing. The finish is long, warming, and elegantly spiced, leaving a lingering impression of molasses and espresso bean.
About Banyuls & the 1965 Vintage:
Nestled along the Mediterranean coast near the Spanish border, Banyuls crafts some of France’s most distinguished fortified wines. The 1965 vintage was marked by a warm, dry summer that favoured concentrated, richly structured wines. Fortified early to preserve natural sweetness, and then aged in barrel for decades, this Banyuls evolved into a masterpiece of oxidative complexity—reminiscent of old Tawny Port or vintage Madeira.
Serving Suggestions:
Serve slightly chilled (14–16°C) in a port or dessert wine glass. A sublime match for Roquefort, salted almonds, or dark chocolate truffles. This wine also shines on its own, sipped contemplatively to mark a special moment.
