Description
Rochas, 1967 Colheita Port
The 1967 harvest in the Douro Valley produced wines of notable concentration and balance, well suited to long oxidative ageing. While the year was not widely declared for Vintage Port, it proved particularly successful for Colheita Ports — wines from a single harvest that mature slowly in seasoned oak casks for many decades before bottling.
Rochas 1967 Colheita Port has spent many years ageing in wood, developing the remarkable depth and complexity that only long cask maturation can provide. The bouquet reveals layers of dried fig, raisin and caramelised orange peel, accompanied by notes of toasted almond, walnut and warm spice. On the palate it is smooth, elegant and beautifully integrated, with flavours of toffee, honeyed nuts and dried fruit balanced by a lively freshness.
After more than half a century of maturation, this Colheita offers a long, mellow and persistent finish, showcasing the refined character that extended ageing in oak brings to great tawny Ports. A superb bottle for celebrating a 1967 birthday or anniversary, and an excellent partner to desserts featuring nuts, caramel or dried fruits — or simply enjoyed slowly on its own.
