Description

1983 Fattoria Casale del Bosco Montalcino

Overview:
A mature and traditionally styled Tuscan red from the historic Montalcino region, the 1983 Fattoria Casale del Bosco reflects the classical winemaking approach of the era, where extended ageing and restrained extraction allowed Sangiovese-based wines to evolve slowly into complex and savoury expressions. Now fully mature, it offers earthy tertiary character, softened structure and the understated elegance typical of aged Montalcino wines.

Appearance:
Deep garnet with pronounced brick-orange evolution at the rim, displaying graceful maturity and developed character from decades of bottle ageing.

Nose:
Fully evolved and aromatic, revealing layers of dried cherry, stewed red berries and plum alongside notes of leather, tobacco leaf and forest floor. With air, additional nuances of dried herbs, cedarwood, balsamic spice and earthy savoury tones emerge, giving the wine notable complexity.

Palate:
Elegant, mellow and harmonious, with tannins now fully softened into a smooth, integrated texture. Flavours of dried red fruits, sour cherry and savoury earth are supported by notes of leather, spice, cedar and subtle balsamic character. The natural acidity of Sangiovese continues to provide freshness and lift, carrying the wine gracefully through its mature tertiary profile.

Finish:
Long, savoury and refined, lingering through dried herbs, tobacco, earthy spice and delicate balsamic nuance.

Decanting:
Stand upright for 2–3 days to allow sediment to settle. Decant carefully through a fine strainer and aerate 1–2 hours before serving at 16–18°C. Fragile corks are common; strain any fragments during decanting.

About the Producer:
Fattoria Casale del Bosco is a traditional Tuscan producer associated with the Montalcino region, an area internationally renowned for long-lived Sangiovese wines capable of developing remarkable complexity and savoury elegance with extended bottle age.
