Description
Royal Oporto, 1967
Late Bottled Vintage Port
Summary
Royal Oporto 1967 Late Bottled Vintage Port is a rare mature LBV from the historic Real Companhia Velha, one of Portugal’s oldest Port producers. Unlike most LBVs that are consumed relatively young, this example has benefited from many decades of bottle ageing, allowing it to develop a level of complexity and refinement seldom seen in this style.
Tasting Notes
The wine shows a deep garnet colour with a softened tawny edge, reflecting its long maturation. The bouquet is richly developed, offering aromas of dried cherries, figs and raisins layered with notes of walnut, leather, cedar and gentle spice.
On the palate it is smooth and mellow, with flavours of mature red fruits, dark chocolate, toasted almonds and subtle caramel tones that have evolved with time. The texture is soft and harmonious, with integrated tannins and a balanced freshness leading to a long, warming finish.
Vintage Overview
The 1967 growing season in the Douro produced grapes of good ripeness and concentration. While the vintage was not widely declared for classic Vintage Port, it yielded wines well suited to extended ageing styles such as Late Bottled Vintage. Over time these wines have evolved into complex and elegant examples of mature Port.
Serving Suggestions
Serve slightly below room temperature at 16–18°C. Although many LBVs are filtered, older examples may throw some sediment and can benefit from gentle decanting. It pairs well with blue cheeses, chocolate desserts, or can be enjoyed on its own.
Cellaring
Fully mature and ready to drink now. Once opened, it will keep for several days if properly sealed and stored in a cool place.
Condition
label dusty and bin soiled - good level
