Description

Rully 1er Cru Champs Cloux 1996
A mature white Burgundy from the Côte Chalonnaise, now showing the nuanced complexity that comes with extended bottle age. The colour has deepened to a golden hue, with hints of amber at the rim, reflecting its development.
The nose is expressive and layered, offering aromas of baked apple, lemon curd and dried orchard fruits, alongside notes of honey, toasted almonds and a gentle buttery richness. Subtle mineral and flinty tones add lift and definition, typical of a quality Rully Premier Cru site.
On the palate, the wine is smooth and well-rounded, with a medium body and a soft, integrated texture. Flavours of ripe apple, citrus peel and hazelnut are supported by a mellow acidity that still provides balance and freshness. The evolution has brought a savoury, slightly nutty character, with a touch of oxidative complexity adding depth.
The finish is elegant and lingering, with notes of honeyed fruit, almond and a delicate mineral edge.
Serving: Best served lightly chilled at 10–12°C. No need for extended decanting, but allow the wine to open in the glass. Pairs well with roast chicken, creamy sauces, or mature cheeses.
Summary: A fully mature white Burgundy offering layered, savoury complexity and gentle richness. Drinking now, this is a wine for those who appreciate the evolved, tertiary style of aged Chardonnay.
