From the sun-baked vineyards of Puglia comes this wonderfully aged 1951 Rosso Vecchio from Ruffino, a wine that captures over seven decades of maturity with grace and depth. Long cherished by collectors and lovers of mature Italian reds, this Salento classic has evolved into a wine of distinctive character and refined complexity.

Tasting Notes:
Deep brick-garnet in colour with seasoned tawny highlights, the nose opens with beautifully developed aromas of dried cherry, fig and ripe plum, interwoven with notes of leather, tobacco leaf, cedar and a hint of underbrush. With time in the glass, nuances of balsamic herb, wild berry compote and gentle spice emerge, adding layers of interest and sophistication. On the palate it is medium-bodied yet entirely harmonious, with softened, integrated tannins and fresh acidity that lifts the rich fruit. Flavours of dark berry, dried fig and a touch of savoury earth are balanced by elegant tertiary tones of leather, forest floor and gentle clove. The finish is long, warm and memorably persistent.

Serving & Pairing:
Carefully decant to remove any delicate sediment and allow the wine to open fully. Serve at cellar-cool to moderate room temperature. Ideal with aged cheeses, slow-braised meats, mushroom ragù or simply enjoyed on its own as a contemplative glass to savour its remarkable evolution.
