Vintage Port
Summary
Sandeman 1967 Vintage Port is a rare and mature example from a small but respected vintage in the Douro. With nearly six decades of bottle ageing, the wine has evolved into a beautifully complex and harmonious Vintage Port, showing the elegance and subtlety that only long cellaring can bring.
Tasting Notes
Now displaying a deep tawny-garnet colour with a softened rim, the wine opens with a beautifully developed bouquet of dried figs, walnut, old leather and cedar, layered with hints of spice and dark chocolate.
On the palate it is smooth and refined, with flavours of mature red fruits, raisins, toasted almonds and subtle caramel notes that have emerged through decades of slow bottle ageing. The tannins have softened into a silky texture, while a gentle freshness keeps the wine balanced and lively. The finish is long, mellow and elegant, with lingering notes of dried fruit, spice and aged wood.
Vintage Overview
The 1967 vintage in the Douro was characterised by a warm summer and favourable harvest conditions, producing ripe grapes with good concentration. Although not universally declared by all houses, several producers—including Sandeman—released Vintage Ports that have matured gracefully and today provide a fascinating glimpse into a more traditional era of Port production.
Serving Suggestions
Serve slightly below room temperature at 16–18°C. Mature Vintage Port should be carefully decanted to remove natural sediment before serving. It pairs beautifully with blue cheeses such as Stilton, dark chocolate desserts, or can be enjoyed on its own as a contemplative after-dinner wine.
Cellaring
Fully mature and ready to drink now. Once opened, it should ideally be enjoyed within 1–2 days.
