Description
The 2013 Vintage Port Wine from Sandeman is a new Single Quinta Vintage Porto and only the second produced in the company’s history from its home vineyard Quinta do Seixo, in the Cima Corgo. In keeping with Port wine tradition, this wine remained in the Douro Region, at Quinta do Seixo, until the following spring, when it was transported to Sandeman's cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia for maturation in "balseiros". Over its first two years of life the wine was constantly monitored by the wine making team carefully assessing its development before the decision was made to declare it as only the second ever Single Quinta Vintage Port in Sandeman’s long and illustrious history. Nearly 30% of the Touriga Nacional component of the blend comes from 100 year old vines, with the remaining Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Sousão and Tinta Francisca coming from vines with an average age of 50 years.
Tasting notes: Deep purple in colour, almost opaque. Intense, powerful aroma of Cherry, Raspberry, Plum and Blueberries. Spicy notes reminiscent of pepper and nutmeg compliment touches of resin and cedar wood. It has a taut yet forgiving structure of firm tannins, good balanced acidity, and spicy, red fruit flavours. It has a long and complex finish.
“Sandeman Quinta do Seixo 2013 is a true reflection of the vineyard’s best grapes of two years ago” says Luís Sottomayor, head winemaker. “Although 2013 was a cold and rainy year in the Douro, the truth is that these grapes showed great maturation, and more importantly, the wine has shown a wonderful evolution”.
