Description
Sangue di Giuda 1971 Brega e Vanzini is a red wine from Lombardy, Italy, crafted by the historic cooperative Brega e Vanzini. This traditional wine, made predominantly from Croatina grapes, exemplifies the unique style of the Oltrepò Pavese region, combining vibrant fruit character with a subtle sweetness and delicate tannic structure, even after decades of maturation.
Tasting Notes:
The wine presents a garnet-red color with orange-tinged highlights at the rim, characteristic of a well-aged Sangue di Giuda. The bouquet is aromatic and layered, offering notes of dried cherries, red berries, and plums, complemented by subtle tertiary hints of leather, light spice, and earthy undertones. Gentle aeration brings forward soft balsamic and mineral nuances, adding complexity.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with smooth, integrated tannins and a balanced acidity that gives it freshness despite its age. The finish is long and elegant, revealing dried red fruits, gentle spice, and soft earthy tones, reflecting both careful maturation and the wine’s distinctive Lombard character.
Serving & Food Pairing:
Serve at around 14–16°C.
Pairs well with lightly roasted meats, cured hams, pasta with rich tomato sauces, and medium-aged cheeses. Its balance of fruit and subtle sweetness also allows it to be enjoyed on its own as a contemplative tasting wine.
Producer:
Brega e Vanzini is celebrated for producing traditional Oltrepò Pavese wines that preserve the character of local varietals while allowing them to age gracefully. The 1971 Sangue di Giuda demonstrates the cooperative’s dedication to regional authenticity and the expressive potential of Croatina-based wines.
