  • Description

The Gancia Vermouth Amaro di Torino is a striking example from the house of Gancia, one of the pioneers of Italian sparkling wine and vermouth production. The ornate red-and-gold label, accented with heraldic shields and flourishing vine motifs, is typical of the 1970s–early 1980s era, when Italian producers were exporting heavily and leaning into highly decorative branding to emphasize tradition and prestige.

This style of Amaro Vermouth blends the classic sweet vermouth base with the more assertive, bitter botanicals of Italy’s amaro tradition. Expect layers of wormwood, gentian, and bitter orange peel, balanced by warming spices like clove and nutmeg, and underpinned by dark caramel sweetness. The result would have been bold, complex, and perfectly suited to the aperitivo ritual or as a base for robust cocktails.

The bottle itself embodies its era—vivid, dramatic, and designed for both Italian and export markets. For collectors, it represents not only a snapshot of Gancia’s role in Turin’s vermouth culture, but also the stylistic bridge between vermouth and amaro traditions.
