From the excellent 1964 Italian Vintage, "Vino delle Portole" refers to a specific type of wine produced in the northern Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, particularly in the area of Prepotto, a small village near Cividale del Friuli. This wine is highly regarded for its quality and distinctive characteristics, owing to the unique terroir of the region. The region is known for cultivating indigenous grape varieties such as Schioppettino, Refosco, and Friulano. Schioppettino, in particular, is a red grape variety that produces wines with spicy, peppery notes and good acidity.
