  • Description

Discover the exceptional richness of the 1945 Warre’s Vintage Port, one of the most iconic ports of the 20th century. Bottled at the close of World War II, this legendary vintage carries both historic significance and an unmistakable aura of quality. Deep in color and brimming with gravitas, the wine presents a rare opportunity to enjoy one of the great benchmark years in Port history.

From the first swirl, this Port impresses with aromas of ripe blackberry jam, dark chocolate, espresso, and a touch of dried tobacco. These sensory layers unfold into deeper notes of leather, fig paste, and crushed violets, signaling the wine’s extraordinary depth and aging potential. Despite its advanced age, it remains remarkably vibrant and complex, demonstrating the hallmark concentration of a classic vintage.

On the palate, the 1945 Warre’s is lush, full-bodied, and indulgent—its smooth, velvety texture carries waves of plum preserves, mocha, spice, and a subtle hint of balsamic reduction. The tannins are silky and well-integrated, offering structure without aggressiveness, while the finish lingers interminably with echoes of cocoa, cinnamon, and black fruit. This is a wine that speaks to decades of careful maturation, yet still captivates with freshness and poise.

For optimal enjoyment, serve this treasure at around 16–18 °C and decant gently to allow its intricate aromas to unfurl. It pairs exquisitely with dark chocolate desserts, dried fruit compotes, walnut tarts, and rich blue cheeses like Stilton. It’s also exceptional as a contemplative solo drink—an unparalleled finale to a special evening or historic-themed dinner.

Owning a bottle of the 1945 Warre’s Vintage Port is not merely collecting a fine wine—it’s preserving a moment in time, a symbol of victory, endurance, and craftsmanship. Limited and increasingly rare, this vintage is a crown jewel for any serious collector or lover of fortified masterpieces. Don’t miss the chance to savor one of Port’s greatest triumphs, ready to deliver an unforgettable experience in every glass.

    5/5 Broadbent
Variable notes, including one framboise-scented, (in 1964), one woody. Showing marvellously well at the 1989 tasting of '45s in Florida: beautiful colour, lively, lovely gradation. Very forthcoming indeed, fairly forceful nose, brandy evident. A powerful wine with cockle-warming alcohol, crisp, lovely texture and elegance - for me the hallmark of Warre. Absolutely glorious. Perfection. Score: 5 Stars

From the Wine Spectator…'This is like a deliciously fresh bowl of fruit. Medium red-ruby with a garnet rim, a nose of cranberries and cherries, full-bodied, with sweet cranberry flavors and a lovely balance of round tannins. A wonderful glass of Port.' (Jan. 1989)
