Description
Warre’s 1960 Vintage Port is a wonderfully mature example from one of the Douro’s oldest and most traditional Port houses. The 1960 vintage produced graceful, long-lived wines, and Warre’s—renowned for its elegant, aromatic style—made a Vintage Port that has aged with exceptional finesse over more than six decades. Bottles from this year are now increasingly rare, and this is a superb opportunity to enjoy a fully evolved classic.
The nose is beautifully lifted, offering aromas of dried red fruits, cherry liqueur, fig and subtle orange peel. Layers of rose petal, cedar, tobacco leaf and warm spice sit beneath the fruit, creating a refined and complex bouquet that continues to open with time in the glass. This delicate, perfumed style is very much in keeping with mature Warre’s.
On the palate, the wine is silky and harmonious, with soft, fully resolved tannins and flavours of dried berries, toffee, roasted nuts and gentle spice. The texture is smooth and graceful, showing elegance rather than intensity, and the finish is long and quietly persistent—showcasing the charm and subtlety that define Warre’s in its best mature vintages.
Food pairing: Excellent with Stilton, aged cheddar, walnuts or enjoyed on its own as a contemplative after-dinner Port. This 1960 is drinking beautifully and offers classic mature Warre’s character.
