Warre’s 2024 Vintage Port
An Elegant and Refined Expression of a Classic Douro Vintage

Warre’s returns with its 2024 Vintage Port, a wine that perfectly embodies the house’s renowned style of elegance, floral finesse, and understated power. Produced from the high-altitude vineyards of Quinta da Cavadinha, Quinta do Retiro, Quinta da Telhada, and Quinta das Netas, the 2024 vintage combines remarkable purity of fruit with exceptional freshness, structure, and complexity.

Deep purple-black in colour, the nose is wonderfully fragrant and expressive, revealing aromas of roses, violets, black cherry, cassis, and vivid red berry fruit layered with subtle notes of pine breeze, wild herbs, and spice. The aromatic profile is lifted, refined, and beautifully detailed, showcasing the hallmark floral character that distinguishes great Warre’s Vintage Ports.

On the palate, the wine is silky, polished, and beautifully balanced, with concentrated black and red fruit flavours framed by fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity. Despite its richness and depth, the 2024 Warre’s retains a graceful and poised character, with exceptional freshness carrying through to a long, elegant, and persistent finish. Layers of complexity emerge gradually, reflecting the contribution of the estate’s exceptional old-vine field blends and the cooler high-altitude terroirs from which the wine originates.

The 2024 growing season provided ideal conditions for slow and even ripening, with abundant winter rainfall replenishing reserves and cooler nights preserving freshness and aromatic precision. Traditional foot treading in granite lagares and the significant contribution from century-old vines have produced a Vintage Port of exceptional refinement, structure, and ageing potential.

Warre’s was founded in 1670 and is the oldest British Port house in Portugal. The house’s vineyards, many planted at higher altitudes and containing significant proportions of old vines, consistently produce wines of remarkable freshness, finesse, and longevity. Combining centuries of tradition with meticulous vineyard management and traditional foot treading, Warre’s continues to produce some of the Douro’s most graceful and age-worthy Vintage Ports.

Reviews

Luis Gutiérrez 95-97/100
The 2024 Vintage Port is the next declaration after the back-to-back 2016 and 2017 vintages. It was produced from 38% Touriga Franca, 34% a field blend from old vines (vinhas velhas), 17% Touriga Nacional and 11% Sousão, fermented in lagar with indigenous yeasts and matured in large oak vessels for 18 months. There is a higher percentage of Touriga Franca in Warre's, a wine that has always been more elegant and graceful. I've always had a crush for Warre's, which is more elegant, and I think it's often underestimated. It's sophisticated and structured, has notes of roses and stands out because of its elegance. It has very fine and elegant tannins. It has concentration and structure, but it's quite drinkable and can be enjoyed now or aged. It has 100 grams of sugar and is often the driest of the Symington Vintage Ports. 51,360 bottles produced.

James Suckling 97/100
Medium- to full-bodied, leaning toward the fuller end, with notes of violets, blackberries and black pepper. Precise and charming as well as approachable, with a focused structure without excessive amplitude. It shows a vibrant side that makes it very pleasant to taste.

Richard Mayson 18.5/20
A blend of 38% Touriga Franca, 34% Vinha Velha (old, interplanted vines), 17% Touriga Nacional and 11% Sousão from Quinta da Cavadinha, neighbouring Netas and Quinta do Bom Retiro: lovely inky crimson colour; dense, gorgeous but still sullen and withdrawn on the nose. It smells fleshy (i.e. ripe and complete) and it tastes similarly rich and broad with firm, spicy-peppery tannins and a long, linear finish. This is not big but it is supremely elegant and graceful with great purity. 4,280 cases in total.
