Casa Ferreirinha, 2018

Callabriga, Douro Tinto

Casa Ferreirinha Callabriga is a deep ruby colour, almost opaque. An intense, really complex aroma, with notes of black and red fruits, pepper, resin and pine needles, with attractive, well-integrated oak. It has good body and acidity, high quality tannins, black fruit flavours, a hint of cocoa and a long, elegant finish.

This producer, founded in 1952, is named after the legendary Porto matriarch Dona Antónia Ferreira. She was affectionately nicknamed 'Ferreirinha' by her countrymen, and Casa Ferreirinha, the first producer in the region dedicated to making light wines, pays homage to her memory.

Casa Ferreirinha, 2018

Quinta de Leda
95 Points - Wine Enthusiast

The 2018 Quinta da Leda is a top-quality red wine of great complexity and elegance, a fine example of the richness and modernity of great Douro wines today. Tasting Notes: Quinta da Leda is very deep red in colour. Casa Ferreirinha, 2018

Castas Escondidas Douro Red Wine

'Castas Escondidas' translates as 'hidden varieties' and showcases some of the lesser known grape varieties of the Douro Valley: Touriga Fêmea, Tinta Francisca, Marufo and Bastardo (the Portuguese name for the Jura's Trousseau.) Grapes were sourced from a combination of Casa Ferreirinha owned vineyards and trusted growers, with a significant proportion of fruit from old, low-yielding, field-blend plots in the blend.

The 2018 Cstas Escondidas is a deep ruby in colour. On the nose, intense aromas of ripe red and black fruits are married with spicy notes of pepper and cinnamon and hints of balsamic.

Prats and Symington, 2018

Chryseia

The 2018 Chryseia has received much critical acclaim. Chryseia has been one of the pioneers of the now widely-recognised resurgence of non-fortified DOURO DOC wines. However, this wine, whose name means "golden" in ancient Greek – as does the name of the river in Portuguese – has remained true to its own style. Elegance and balance predominate and it has depth without heaviness, and body without sharpness.

Critical Acclaim
96/100 Wine Enthusiast
If any wine from the Douro has a Bordeaux influence, it is this wine. Produced as part of a joint venture between the Prats family of Bordeaux and the Symington family of the Douro, this wine shows great attention to tannins and structure while allowing the black fruits to shine.

Prats and Symington, 2016

Prazo de Roriz

This 2016 Prazo de Roriz red wine is from the famous joint venture of the Symington family with Bruno Prats of Bordeaux. Such a vivid purple colour, but immediately more refined, less fruitcakey and plummy than the Altano before it, more cedar and incense fragrance and lovely balance and finesse, lightness. Juicy and long, with elegant and fine tannins and fresher acidity.

The Prazo de Roriz is characterized in particular by red fruits, raspberries and cherries and the Roriz terroir provides a distinctive minerality and appealing peppery spice. Made for drinking young, but with the potential for developing in-bottle for several years.
