Born in this Year: Thomas Hardy, Novelist, An important Victorian Realist author, he is remembered for Tess of the d'Urbervilles, Far from the Madding Crowd, and other novels. Also a significant poet, he published Moments of Vision, Satires of Circumstance, and Winter Words in Various Moods and Metres, among other collections. He was the son of a stonemason and worked for a time as an architect's apprentice before studying at King's College, London. He dictated a poem to his second wife while he was on his deathbed.

Ferreira, 1840
Vintage Port, DOC Douro
A rare bottle of Ferreira 1840 Vintage port recently released from the Ferreira Cellars for Vintage Wine and Port with certificate of authentication in individual gift box.
In October 2019 We were offered the opportunity to purchase a small quantity of old Ferreira stocks. The bottles have been maintained in the cellars by generations of wine makers (currently Luis Sottomayer Head Wine maker for Sogrape) and are in pristine condition. Each bottle comes with a certificate of authentication and an individual presentation box. Only two bottles of this vintage were released - the other bottle will not be sold. …
