The 2018 wine vintage was, overall, very successful. For Europe, the 2018 summer was a particular sizzler, in some cases rivalling that of 2003, and had a profound effect on many of the wine regions.

Bordeaux: The 2018 Bordeaux vintage is a warm, powerful year with ripe, generous wines. A hot, dry summer produced concentrated grapes, giving reds bold fruit, firm tannins and smooth structure. Whites are fresh and aromatic, while sweet wines are rich and luscious. Overall, 2018 Bordeaux wines are approachable now but will also age beautifully.
Douro Wines: The 2018 Douro vintage is rich, ripe and well-balanced. Hot summer conditions produced concentrated red grapes with bold dark fruit and velvety tannins, while cooler nights preserved freshness. Whites are bright and expressive. Overall, 2018 Douro wines are powerful yet harmonious, great for drinking now or ageing.
Italian: The 2018 Italian vintage is a warm and balanced year across major regions. Reds from Tuscany and Piedmont are ripe, full-bodied and structured, while whites are aromatic and lively. The combination of warmth and good vineyard management led to wines that are enjoyable now yet capable of ageing.
Portugal: The 2018 Port vintage is considered exceptional and widely declared by top houses. A hot, dry growing season produced intense, concentrated fruit, while cool harvest nights preserved acidity. Vintage Ports show deep colour, powerful dark fruits and firm tannins, making them structured, expressive, and excellent for long-term cellaring.

Medium-intense ruby red colour. On the nose explosive, elegant, charming and immediate. Aromas of prunes, red and black ripe cherry, blackberry, rose petals and tobacco. On the palate it is classic, quite rich and powerful, with notes of alpine herbs and leather on its finish. The tannins are very well-integrated in the fruit structure of the wine.

Vietti Brunate, Barolo, Piedmont 95 points Wine Advocate
The 2018 Vietti Brunate has an intense ruby red colour. Quite explosive, powerful and generous nose. Fruity notes of prunes, grapefruit and citron, with spicy overtones. In the glass it gradually shows violet aromas, very typical of the Brunate vineyard. Full and intense on the palate. The tannins are soft, round and velvety, distinctive of the La Morra terroir. Long finish with sensation of licorice roots.
Vineyard: The grapes are grown in the historical Cru vineyard Brunate, which is located in La Morra, south-facing towards the town of Barolo, at an altitude of 300 to 400 meters a.s.l.. The average age of the grapevines is 55 years, and they are planted with a density of 4,600 vines per hectare, in the Guyot trellis system. …

Intense ruby red colour. Generous nose with aromas of ripe red berry fruit with spicy overtones. Intense on the palate, quite rich though very elegant and well-balanced. Deep ruby red colour with garnet nuances. Fascinating and deep on the nose. Notes of hay, cut grass, tobacco, white pepper and a hint of mint. Robust, muscular on the palate, with a taut and mineral finish. The tannins are typical of Serralunga: angular, austere and very deep. Appealing long lingering sweetness on the finish.

The grapes for this wine are sourced from the single vineyard Lazzarito in Serralunga d’Alba. Lazzarito is a wonderful natural amphitheater facing southwest, at an altitude of 260 – 390 meters a.s.l., with a clayey and calcareous soil. Intense garnet red colour. A rather austere nose in the beginning, paired with complex floral and fruity notes that open in the glass after a little while. Hints of red fruit, mineral and spicy nuances. Quite intense on the palate, with ripe red fruit sensations. Firm, compact tannins make this a very classic wine. Vibrant, vertical acidity. Extremely elegant and refined. Long lasting aftertaste.

Very deep purple black at the centre, with a narrow purple red rim. Although the nose displays the seductive, opulent red fruit character which is a familiar feature of Roêda vintage ports, there are also intense, woodland berry aromas which add focus and finesse. As usual, the fruit is wrapped in an envelope of exotic balsamic, minty, eucalyptus scents. The first impression on the palate is of roundness and a rich, velvety texture but there is excellent acidity and well-integrated grippy tannins which emerge on the finish.
