Taylor Fladgate, 1924

Vintage Port, DOC Douro Unlabelled ID from cork. Excellent provenance Level Very Top Shoulder.

‘Just a notch deeper in colour than the 1912. The nose is divine: intense, beautifully defined, very Taylor’s. Quite spicy, dried orange peel, cigar box, a touch of sandalwood. Gains perfume in the glass but after 30 minutes has gone back into its shell. The palate is full-bodied, very concentrated, more viscous than the 1912. Notes of ginger, apricot, fig, licorice. Lovely ripe orange-tinged finish that goes on and on. Very sensuous; beautiful poise on the fruit.’

Tuke Holdsworth, 1924

Vintage Port

Tuke Holdsworth was the brand name of the old shipper Hunt Roope & Teage, the former owners of Quinta da Eira Velha. The company was sold to Ferreira in 1956 but the quinta was retained by the family and from that point it supplied wines to Martinez and Cockburn.

Quinta da Eira Velha is one of the oldest estates in the Douro Valley. It is believed that vines have been cultivated at Eira Velha for over 600 years. The vineyard and buildings occupy a southeast-facing slope between 160 and 390 meters above the confluence of the Douro River with its tributary, the Pinhão River.

In 1893 it was purchased by the prominent Port wine merchant Cabel Roope.

Fonseca Port, 1922

Vintage Port, DOC Douro

Pale tawny brown at the core, fading to amber with olive highlights at the rim. Faultless nose, extraordinarily complex, with notes of cedar, tobacco and orange flower perfectly intertwined, a sumptuous mellow undertone of molasses and butterscotch and a halo of fresh, minty herbal scent. An hour after decanting, the wine opened up an exotic spice chest of nutmeg, black pepper, cumin and, tobacco, later joined by coffee, aromatic wood and dried rose petal. Dense, thick, almost treacly palate, holding the spirit firmly in place and underpinned by a crisp acidity. A luscious infusion of treacle and toffee lingering into the endless finish.

Taylor Fladgate, 1920

Vintage Port, Douro
Unlabelled

Excellent level- very top shoulder.

A tiny production from a very good year, the 1920 Taylor is mature and yet still retains some sweetness to match the almost Tawny Port notes of almonds and red cherries. Lovely right now and with plenty left to give.

Tuke Holdsworth, 1920

Vintage Port, DOC Douro

The *1920 Tuke Holdsworth Vintage Port* is an exceptionally rare fortified wine from one of the Douro’s classic early 20th-century vintages, bottled by the historic British Port shipper Tuke Holdsworth. Now over a century old, it represents a remarkable survival from the golden era of traditional Port-making—crafted entirely by hand, foot-trodden in granite lagares, and built to mature gracefully for generations. Bottles of this age and provenance are incredibly scarce, making this a true collector’s treasure.

In the glass, it would likely display a deep tawny-brown core with olive-green highlights at the rim, a signature of great maturity in vintage Port.

Borges, 1918

Vintage Port Soalheria Vineyard, DOC Douro

The Sociedade dos Vinhas Borges was founded in Porto in 1884 by two brothers, António and Francisco Nunes Borges. Trading initially under the name of António Nunes Borges & Irmão, later in 1918 abbreviated to Borges & Irmão, the company's activities ran from wines to tobacco, matches and foreign currency and founded Banco Borges & Irmao in 1937. Between 1892 and 1895 the brothers began to devote more attention to the wine side of the business, because the export trade in table wines was developing well,
particularly to Brazil. 1907 was a very special year for the company and expanding the wine side of their business.
