Sangiovese di Romagna, 1975

Fattoria la Fuchina

Good-quality Sangiovese is prized for its high acid, firm tannins and balanced nature. Savory flavors of dark cherries and black stone fruit are characteristic, and may be backed by secondary notes of tomato leaf and dried herbs. The use of oak has become more popular and this coaxes richer flavors from the grapes, tending toward plum and wild raspberry.

Smith Woodhouse, 1975 Vintage Port

Vintage & Background
Founded in 1784, Smith Woodhouse is one of the historic names in Port, known for producing elegant and long-lived wines from prime vineyards in the Cima Corgo. The 1975 vintage was a challenging but ultimately rewarding year: a cool spring and uneven flowering were followed by a warm summer and favourable harvest conditions, yielding wines of balance and finesse. While not declared by all houses, Smith Woodhouse produced a beautifully structured and refined Vintage Port that has matured gracefully over five decades.

1959 Mas de la Garrigue, Vieux Rivesaltes – Fortified Sweet Wine

A beautifully aged Vin Doux Naturel from the sun-baked slopes of Roussillon, the 1959 Mas de la Garrigue Vieux Rivesaltes captures the soul of southern France in a bottle. Produced primarily from Grenache Blanc and Grenache Gris, fortified to preserve natural sweetness, and aged for decades in old oak casks, it has developed remarkable depth, complexity, and harmony.

In the glass, it glows a deep amber-bronze with golden reflections — the hallmark of long oxidative maturation. The nose is stunningly complex, unfolding layers of dried apricot, fig, and orange peel, laced with caramel, honey, toasted almond, and nutmeg.

Often described as "dessert in a glass," PX wines are bursting with flavors of raisins, molasses, dried figs, caramel, chocolate, and nuts like toasted almonds or hazelnuts. The wine’s sweetness is balanced by its complex and layered profile, making it a luxurious treat for the palate.

Barolo is known as the 'king of wines' and is made from the Nebbiolo grape. Heady aromas of rose, leather, vanilla, cherry, pepper, cranberry, strawberry. Fruits are perfectly knitted with the tannins and acidity. It's a powerful wine but remarkably subtle. Don't underestimate it and certainly serve it with food to show at it's best. Castel del Monte, 1974

Il Falcone - Rivera - Riserva
Was £89 Clearance | Last Bottle £42.50

Castel del Monte is a DOC of the Puglia wine region in south-eastern Italy. In a region where only a small proportion of vineyards take up the DOC titles to which they are entitled, Castel del Monte is one of the more promising. The 'Castle on the Hill' referred to in the name is precisely that - an octagonal fortification built in the 13th century which overlooks the landscape for miles around. The castle itself has less of a promising future than the wines made in its name, as over the centuries it has been used as a prison, a plague shelter and finally a source of marble and stone for opportunistic locals.
