Description

Tasting Notes Deep ruby in colour, almost opaque. On the nose intense aromas of red and black fruits are married with spicy notes of pepper and ginger, hints of cacao and a subtle stony minerality. Great intensity on the palate, with opulent and firm tannins and a lively acidity which carries the intense flavours onto long and complex finish.

Luís Sottomayor describes the 2019 vintage as “a very good year, with freshness and great balance." Winter and spring were cooler and drier than normal, but April showers replenished water reserves in the soil and helped sustain the vines through the dry summer that followed. Summer temperatures were milder than average with cool nights which favoured a slow and steady ripening of the grapes, allowing them to accumulate great intensity of flavour while retaining a refreshing acidity. The harvest at Quinta do Seixo began on 5th September and continued until the end of the month in ideal conditions with virtually no rain.

Serving Tips & Storage When mature this port will need to be decanted to remove sediment. Serve at room temperature on its own or with steak and blue cheese sauce or vintage mature blue cheeses such as stilton Cashel Blue, Roquefort, Gorgonzola and Saint Augur Blue. Vintage port is also good with chocolate - a flattering accompaniment to top quality hand-made chocolates and artisan chocolate bars. Please store on its side in a cool dark space away from heat and light. Drink from 2030-2050+.

Benchmark young vintage port. Black plums, kirsch, cherries and dense silky tannins. Bags of liquorice, spices, violets and beautiful texture. A long, velvety finish. A complete vintage port. Recommend decanting.
