2004 Chateau Gruaud Larose, Saint-Julien
The ’04 Gruaud Larose has a deep garnet core. The bouquet is light and tobacco-scented, quite earthy with a hint of sous-bois. Perhaps it just lacks a little vigour considering its youth? The palate is medium-bodied with light tannins, driven by the acidity, dark brambly black fruit, earthy, a touch of white pepper towards the loose-knit finish.

2004 Taylor's Quinta de Vargellas Vintage Port
Powerful, pungent, aromatic nose with ripe, rich, juicy, berry fruit aromas; overlaid with wonderful characteristic floral notes. This wine has a bouquet with great depth and layers of intense fresh fruit. On the palate, the freshness of berry fruit continues, combining with rich chocolate and liquorice flavours of equal intensity. The tannins are firm but well integrated, resulting in a beautifully structured and balanced wine. Texturally the wine is smooth and silky, leaving one with the sensation of a well crafted, stylish, extremely elegant wine.

Reviews

2004 Gruaud Larose:
***91 Points- Gilbert & Gaillard***
Intense colour. Ripe macerated black fruit and roasted coffee nose. Powerful attack, texture with rather dry tannins. Must be decanted, then becoming more mellow.
