  • Description

This mature Barbaresco Riserva Speciale comes from Bersano, a historic Piedmontese estate renowned for producing elegant, long-lived Nebbiolo wines that capture the finesse and complexity of the Langhe hills. The 1971 vintage, widely regarded as a classic year in Piedmont, displays a garnet-red colour with pronounced brick-orange highlights, reflecting over five decades of graceful evolution.

On the nose, it reveals a beautifully layered bouquet of dried red cherries, rose petal, tar, and sweet spice, with additional notes of leather, tobacco, truffle, and forest floor. The palate is refined and silky, with fully resolved tannins supporting flavours of stewed cherries, orange peel, dried herbs, and subtle earthy minerality. The finish is long, elegant, and persistent, showcasing the depth, harmony, and classic structure of mature Barbaresco at its peak.

Decanting: Stand the bottle upright for 2–3 days prior to opening to allow any sediment to settle. Decant slowly and carefully through a fine strainer, allowing 1–2 hours of gentle aeration before serving at 16–18°C. A fragile cork is very common with older bottles, where the wine has been in prolonged contact with the cork over many decades. We therefore recommend straining any cork fragments during the decanting process.
