Description
Valfieri, 1981 Barbaresco
A mature and characterful Barbaresco from a classic era, the 1981 Valfieri offers a rare opportunity to experience fully evolved Nebbiolo with tertiary complexity and gentle elegance.
Tasting Note
The nose is resolved and nuanced, showing dried cherry, redcurrant and cranberry, layered with notes of rose petal, dried herbs, leather, tobacco and forest floor. On the palate, the wine is silky and harmonious, with softened acidity supporting flavours of savoury red fruit, orange peel, truffle and gentle earthy spice. The tannins are fully resolved, giving a smooth, graceful texture and a long, mellow finish.
Food Pairing
Best enjoyed with classic Piedmontese dishes such as braised veal, mushroom and truffle-based recipes, roast poultry, or simply on its own as a contemplative after-dinner wine.
Serving & Drinking Window
Serve at 16–18°C. Decant carefully to remove sediment, ideally just before serving. Drinking at full maturity and best enjoyed now.
Why We Love It
Well-aged Barbaresco offers a unique expression of Nebbiolo, where structure gives way to complexity and finesse. This 1981 Valfieri is a rare, elegant example for lovers of mature Italian wines.
