Description
1981 Barolo – Bersano (Piedmont, Italy) – HALF BOTTLE 50cl
A fully mature, classical Barolo presented in the rarer 50cl half-bottle—expect faster evolution and heightened perfume. Brick-garnet with a broad tawny rim, the bouquet lifts with dried cherry and cranberry, rose petal and violet, cedar, leather and sweet tobacco, with hints of orange peel, tea leaf and a gentle tar/balsamic note. Mid-weight and savoury on the palate: lively, old-world acidity carries red-cherry fruit, dried herbs and subtle underbrush; tannins are fine and resolved. The finish is long and tapering with cherry skin, cedar spice and dried flowers.
Producer note: Bersano is one of Piedmont’s historic houses (Nizza Monferrato), long associated with traditional Nebbiolo matured in large old casks—elegance, aromatic lift and graceful ageing.
Format note: Half bottles mature more quickly than 75cl; this is fully tertiary and delicate—handle gently and enjoy soon.
Serve: 16–18 °C. Stand upright 12–24 hours; very gentle decant for sediment just before pouring.
Food pairing: Roast chicken with herbs, tajarin with butter and sage, porcini risotto, aged alpine cheeses.
