Barolo 1981 – Giordano, Piedmont

The 1981 Barolo from Giordano is a beautifully mature and traditional expression of Nebbiolo, now showing all the elegance and complexity that long ageing can bring. The colour is a soft garnet with amber and brick tones at the rim, reflecting its graceful development.

On the nose, the wine is layered and refined, with aromas of dried rose petals, sour cherry, redcurrant and cranberry, followed by notes of leather, tobacco, forest floor and truffle. Subtle hints of balsamic, anise and cedar add further depth and nuance.

The palate is smooth, balanced and gently savoury. The tannins have fully resolved into a silky texture, allowing flavours of dried red fruits, tea leaf, earthy spice and gentle herbal notes to unfold with clarity. Fresh acidity keeps the wine lively and well composed.

The finish is long, elegant and persistent, leaving lingering impressions of dried fruit, truffle and sweet tobacco. This is a Barolo that rewards slow, thoughtful drinking.

This mature Barolo pairs beautifully with braised beef, veal, osso buco and rich mushroom-based dishes, as well as truffle pasta and risotto. It also works very well with roasted lamb, game and aged hard cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano.

A graceful, fully mature Barolo offering classic Nebbiolo aromatics, refined structure and long, savoury complexity. The 1981 Giordano is a fine example of traditional Piedmontese Barolo ageing with elegance and charm.
