Description
The Barbaresco DOCG 1986 Giordano is a classic historic red wine from the Langhe region in Piedmont, Italy. Produced from 100% Nebbiolo grapes, it reflects the traditional Barbaresco style of the mid-1980s: structured, aromatic, and built for long bottle aging with gradual evolution toward elegance and tertiary complexity.
Tasting notes:
The 1986 vintage is now fully mature, showing pronounced tertiary development. The nose opens with aromas of dried rose petals, sour cherry, dried plum, leather, tobacco leaf, and forest floor. With aeration, additional layers of truffle, dried herbs, spice, cedarwood, and balsamic notes emerge.
On the palate it is evolved, elegant, and harmonious, with tannins now fully softened and integrated. The natural acidity of Nebbiolo still provides structure and freshness, while the fruit has evolved into savory, dried-fruit, and earthy expressions. The finish is long, refined, and gently austere, typical of well-aged Barbaresco.
Serving & food pairing:
Best served at 16–18°C, with very gentle handling and minimal or no decanting.
It pairs well with:
Braised beef and veal
Game dishes (rabbit, wild boar)
Mushroom risotto
Truffle-based dishes
Aged hard cheeses
Producer:
Giordano Vini is a historic Italian wine producer founded in Piedmont in the early 20th century. The winery became known for producing a wide range of traditional Italian wines, including classic Nebbiolo-based expressions like Barolo and Barbaresco, often focused on accessibility while maintaining regional identity.
