Description

The Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 1986 Fontevino is a rare historic red wine from the area of Montalcino. Produced from 100% Sangiovese (Brunello), it reflects the traditional style of 1980s Brunello: structured, long-lived, and built for slow bottle evolution toward complex tertiary expression.

Tasting notes:

The 1986 vintage is now fully mature and deeply tertiary. The nose opens with aromas of dried cherry, sour plum, leather, tobacco leaf, dried rose petals, and forest floor. With aeration, further complexity develops with earth, truffle, dried herbs, cedarwood, and balsamic notes.

On the palate it is evolved, elegant, and harmonious, with tannins now fully softened and integrated. The natural acidity of Sangiovese still provides structure and lift, while the fruit has transformed into savory, dried-fruit, and earthy expressions. The finish is long, refined, and slightly austere, typical of well-aged Brunello from this period.

Serving & food pairing:

Best served at 16–18°C, with very gentle handling and minimal or no decanting.

It pairs well with:

Braised beef
Roasted lamb
Game dishes (wild boar, hare)
Mushroom risotto
Aged Pecorino and hard cheeses
Producer:

Fontevino is associated with traditional Brunello di Montalcino production, representing a classic Tuscan approach focused on Sangiovese-based wines with strong aging potential and expression of the Montalcino terroir during the 1980s.
