Description
1991 Barbaresco – Renzo Odicino (Piedmont, Italy)
A quietly beautiful, fully mature Barbaresco that favours perfume and finesse over power. Brick-garnet with a tawny rim, it lifts with dried cherry and cranberry, rose petal and violet, cedar, leather and sweet tobacco, with a hint of orange peel and tea leaf. The palate is elegant and savoury: red-cherry fruit carried by lively acidity; tannins are fine and resolved, giving silk rather than grip. The finish is long and tapering with cherry skin, dried flowers and gentle spice.
From carefully selected, well-stored bottles, this shows the ethereal side of Nebbiolo—more incense and dried flowers than muscle—making it a superb bottle for refined, slow meals and conversation. Scarcer than Barolo of the same era, mature Barbaresco at this level offers exceptional value for those who prize nuance and aromatic detail.
Serve at 16–18 °C. Stand upright for 24 hours and very gently decant for sediment just before pouring. Perfect with roast chicken and herbs, tajarin with butter and sage, porcini risotto or aged pecorino. Enjoy now and over the next 1–3 years (well-stored bottles). Limited availability.
