Description
1986 Barolo – Damilano (Piedmont, Italy)
A classically styled, fully mature Barolo with perfume over power. Brick-garnet with a broad tawny rim. The bouquet lifts with dried cherry and cranberry, rose petal and violet, cedar and sweet tobacco, with hints of orange peel, tea leaf and a gentle tar/balsamic note. Mid-weight and savoury on the palate: lively, old-world acidity carries red-cherry fruit, dried herbs and subtle leather; tannins are fine and resolved. The finish is long and tapering with cherry skin, cedar spice and dried flowers.
Producer note: Damilano is one of Barolo’s historic houses (family roots early 1900s), best known for La Morra/Cannubi holdings and a traditional maturation in large oak—elegance and aromatic lift rather than heft.
Serve: 16–18 °C. Stand upright 12–24 hours; very gentle decant for sediment just before pouring.
Food pairing: Roast chicken with herbs, tajarin with butter and sage, porcini risotto, aged pecorino.
