Description
Gigi Rosso, 2017 Barolo “Bricco San Pietro”
A classic, traditionally styled Barolo from the hills of Castiglione Falletto, the 2017 Bricco San Pietro offers an expressive and well-structured take on Nebbiolo from a warm, generous vintage.
Tasting Note
The nose is open and aromatic, showing ripe red cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry, layered with rose petal, dried herbs, liquorice and a touch of sweet spice. On the palate, the wine is firm yet balanced, with vibrant acidity supporting flavours of crimson fruit, orange peel and earthy minerality. Structured, fine-grained tannins give shape and drive through to a long, savoury and harmonious finish.
Food Pairing
A natural partner for braised beef, slow-cooked lamb, game dishes, mushroom and truffle-based recipes, and aged hard cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano or Castelmagno.
Serving & Cellaring
Serve at 16–18°C. Decant for 1–2 hours before drinking. Drinking well now with air, and will cellar confidently for 15–20 years.
Why We Love It
Bricco San Pietro delivers everything we look for in traditional Barolo — structure, balance and authenticity. A serious, food-friendly Nebbiolo that rewards patience and careful serving.
Gigi Rosso winery sits in Castiglione Falletto, in the heart of Barolo land. It carries the name of its founder Gigi, one of Barolo’s and Langhe pioneers. The next generation, Maurizio and his son Andreas are now managing Gigi Rosso winery. The passage to the second and third generation brings energy and new ideas to the business. As Gigi expressed in his own words: “I was born in the vineyards. I grew up in the vineyards. And the vineyards are my heart and soul. The Langhe are my home. This land gave me a very precious gift. As a thank you, every year, I harvest its fruits and look after them like a mother looks after her babies. They call me enologist, they say I’m a wine expert, they refer to me as a pioneer. But there’s only one truth: when nature speaks I listen. My land tells a unique story and I’m always listening”.

This has subdued aromas recalling camphor, scorched earth and a hint of blue flowers. The palate is tight and lean in terms of fruit richness, offering dried cherry, star anise and hints of powdered sage before finishing on an almost salty note. Tight, rather grainy tannins give it a mouthdrying, astringent close. Kerin O’Keefe
