  • Description

The Giacomo Borgogno *Gran Dessert* is a rare and luxurious aromatised wine from one of Barolo’s most historic producers, blending the elegance of Nebbiolo with a time-honoured infusion of herbs, spices, and botanicals. Crafted in the style of *Barolo Chinato*, it begins with a mature Barolo base—rich in aromas of cherry, rose, and subtle spice—then is steeped with quinine bark (*china*), cinnamon, cloves, rhubarb root, and other secret ingredients. The result is a bittersweet elixir that bridges the worlds of fine wine and herbal liqueurs, intended as both a refined digestif and an indulgent dessert accompaniment.

In the glass, it would show a deep garnet-brown hue with warm amber glints, reflecting both age and botanical influence. The bouquet is intensely perfumed, with layers of dried cherry, plum, and fig mingling with rose petal, cocoa, and candied orange peel. Notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove emerge alongside quinine and gentian, adding a gentle medicinal complexity that balances the sweetness.

On the palate, the *Gran Dessert* is velvety, warming, and perfectly poised between richness and freshness. The initial burst of spiced red fruit and dark chocolate is followed by herbal undertones, subtle bitterness from the quinine, and a vibrant acidity that keeps the wine lively. Nebbiolo’s natural tannic structure provides depth, while the finish is long and layered, leaving lingering impressions of spice, citrus zest, and bitter-sweet botanicals.

Best enjoyed slightly chilled or at cellar temperature, the Giacomo Borgogno *Gran Dessert* shines as an after-dinner sipper, either on its own in a tulip glass or paired with high-cocoa dark chocolate, nut-based pastries, or aged blue cheese. More than just a wine, it is a piece of Piedmontese heritage—an indulgent, aromatic creation that unites Barolo’s nobility with the artistry of herbal infusion.
