Description
The 1999 Barros Colheita Port is a beautifully matured single-vintage Tawny Port, aged in oak casks for over two decades before bottling. Sourced from selected old vineyards in the Douro Valley, this wine reflects the expertise of Barros in crafting nuanced, time-aged Ports. Its long ageing process has transformed vibrant youthful fruit into a silky, elegant wine full of complexity and depth.
In the glass, the wine shows a deep amber colour with coppery hues and a gently faded rim, a hallmark of extended oxidative ageing. The nose is rich and layered, opening with aromas of dried apricots, roasted hazelnuts, orange peel, and fig compote. Subtle notes of cedar, spice, and caramel add warmth and sophistication, while a gentle oxidative character brings harmony and poise.
On the palate, this Colheita is smooth, mellow, and refined. Flavours of sultanas, honeyed nuts, and butterscotch are balanced by a fresh acidity that lifts the wine and prevents it from becoming overly sweet. The texture is silky and graceful, with a long, warming finish marked by lingering notes of dried fruit, sweet spice, and wood polish.
Enjoy the 1999 Barros Colheita Port slightly chilled as an after-dinner drink or pair it with nut-based desserts, aged cheese, or dark chocolate. It also makes a thoughtful 25th birthday or anniversary gift, offering a wine that is both personal and ready to enjoy at peak maturity.
