Description
2012 Barros Quinta Da Galeira Vintage Port
Founded in 1913, Barros is a house synonymous with tradition and quality, recognised for producing characterful Ports that age beautifully. The 2012 vintage in the Douro was marked by a cool spring and hot summer, leading to smaller yields but grapes of excellent concentration and freshness. This has resulted in a classic, structured wine with depth and poise.
Tasting Notes
A deep ruby-purple colour in the glass. The bouquet is fragrant with notes of ripe blackberry, dark cherry and plum, supported by layers of cocoa, violets and exotic spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet balanced, showing vibrant fruit wrapped in firm but refined tannins. The finish is long and persistent, revealing hints of liquorice and dark chocolate.
Food Pairing
Decant before serving. Ideal with rich blue cheeses, dark chocolate desserts, or enjoyed on its own as a meditative glass after dinner.
Cellaring Potential
Approachable in youth after long decanting, but will continue to develop complexity and elegance over the next 15–20 years.

Reviews
17 pts Revista de Vinhos - Lots of blue fruit, good minerality to be perceived in the aroma, austere but without losing elegance, centred in a graceful style, focused on the notes of carob and black chocolate.

The 2012 Quinta da Galeira Port is a single-quinta blend of Old Vines field blend (10%), Touriga Nacional (20%), Touriga Franca (40%), Tinta Roriz (25%) and Tinta Amarela (5%), bottled in July, 2014. It comes in at 92 grams per liter of residual sugar. Opening with a familiar rush of sugar – although it is not particularly on the sweet side given the paper statistic s– this is a bit light in the mid-palate and quite delicious, with some alcoholic burn underneath. Tightening quickly with air, it becomes more austere and pointed all the while. This is a single quinta that is a bit angular, with some pop and power, but not a lot of flesh or mid-palate concentration. The next day it was mostly about the fruit and sugar, more charming and tasty, with the power receding, but now on the straightforward side. Give this 5+ years to settle down. It won't make the best old bones, but it should certainly hold well thereafter.
