Description

1970 Borges Vintage Port

The 1970 vintage is widely regarded as one of the great classic declared years for Vintage Port, producing wines of structure, longevity and remarkable ageing potential. Over five decades on, the 1970 Borges Vintage Port offers a beautifully mature and characterful expression of this celebrated year.

Tasting Notes:
Deep tawny-garnet in colour with a brick-tinged rim, reflecting its long bottle evolution. The nose is layered and complex, revealing aromas of dried blackberries, fig and date intertwined with notes of walnut, cedarwood, tobacco leaf and sweet baking spice. On the palate, it is rich yet harmonious, with softened tannins and a silky texture. Flavours of dark cherry compote, raisin, caramelised nuts and a hint of cocoa unfold gracefully, balanced by a fresh acidity that lifts the finish. The wine concludes with a long, warming and elegant persistence.

Serving & Food Pairing:
As with all mature Vintage Ports, careful decanting is recommended to remove natural sediment. Serve slightly below room temperature. An excellent accompaniment to Stilton or other blue cheeses, walnut tart, dark chocolate desserts, or simply enjoyed on its own as a contemplative after-dinner glass.

Summary:
A fine example of a mature 1970 Vintage Port, showing complexity, depth and the graceful development that extended bottle ageing brings.
