Description

The 2017 Bride Valley Brut Reserve is the perfect light apéritif and beautifully displays the delicate cool climate qualities of English sparkling wine. Pale lemon-yellow in colour, with persistent tiny bubbles, elegantly lifted fruit and a textured dry finish. The ripe fruit gives it a full-bodied quality that make it perfect with salad, seafood, fish, or even chicken.

The Dorset estate of esteemed wine writer Steven Spurrier and his wife Bella. The vines are planted in an amphitheatre-like vineyard overlooking the village of Litton Cheney, near Bridport.

Following Steven's tests, the local geology here was found to be very similar to Champagne, perhaps rather unsurprisingly as the village of Kimmeridge is a short distance away with its geologically identical chalky soil to the Champagne region. The wines here are a real joy to drink, beautiful fruit comes off these rolling vineyards and is vinified at the neighbouring Furleigh Estate by the brilliant Ian Edwards.

100% Chardonnay from the south-facing slopes of Litton Cheney, Dorset. Disgorged after 24 months on the lees, it is released for the summer – three years after the vintage. The perfect apéritif

Tasting Note: Light lemon-yellow in colour with tiny persistent bubbles, still quite tight (June 2020) but the blend shows extremely well with a firm lift of fruit that will open up in the glass with natural acidity adding freshness to the finish. The class of the vineyard and winemaking really shines through.

Reviews

..broad and structured with a nice balance of orchard fruit and the estate’s signature acidity. It feels tightly coiled, with energy and drive on the palate.” Catherine Petrie MW
