Description

The Brunello di Montalcino DOC 1971 Silvio Nardi is a rare and historically important Tuscan wine from one of the pioneering estates of Montalcino. Produced in the early decades of Brunello’s modern development, this vintage represents a traditional interpretation of Sangiovese Grosso, shaped by long ageing and classic winemaking methods.

Tasting Notes:

The 1971 vintage is fully mature and deeply tertiary. The nose reveals aromas of dried cherry, sour plum, leather, tobacco, dried rose petals, forest floor, and earthy spice, with additional notes of balsamic, cedarwood, and dried herbs emerging with air.

On the palate it is elegant, soft, and evolved, with fully integrated tannins and gentle acidity. The fruit has long transitioned into dried and savory tones, while the structure is carried by earthy complexity and refined tertiary character. The finish is long, delicate, and contemplative, typical of old-school Brunello from this era.

Serving & Food Pairing:

Best served at 18°C. Due to its age, the bottle should be handled with extreme care, and gentle pouring is recommended to avoid disturbing sediment.

It pairs well with:

braised beef and game dishes
mushroom risotto
truffle-based pasta
aged Pecorino cheese
traditional Tuscan stews
