Description

The Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 1987 Tre Cerchi is a rare historic red wine from the area of Montalcino. Produced from 100% Sangiovese (Brunello), it reflects the traditional late-1980s Brunello style: structured, age-worthy, and designed for slow evolution in bottle toward complex tertiary expression.

Tasting notes:

The 1987 vintage is now fully mature, showing a well-developed tertiary profile. The nose opens with aromas of dried cherry, sour plum, leather, tobacco leaf, dried rose petals, and forest floor. With aeration, additional layers of earth, truffle, dried herbs, cedarwood, and balsamic nuances emerge.

On the palate it is evolved, elegant, and harmonious, with tannins now fully softened and integrated. The natural acidity of Sangiovese still provides balance and lift, while the fruit has transformed into savory, dried-fruit, and earthy expressions. The finish is long, refined, and gently austere, typical of classic aged Brunello.

Serving & food pairing:

Best served at 16–18°C, with very gentle handling and minimal or no decanting.

It pairs well with:

Braised beef
Roasted lamb
Game dishes (wild boar, hare)
Mushroom risotto
Aged Pecorino and hard cheeses
Producer:

Tre Cerchi is associated with traditional Brunello di Montalcino production, representing a classic Tuscan approach focused on Sangiovese-based wines with long aging potential and expression of the Montalcino terroir.
